CHELMSFORD TOMAHAWKS CELEBRATE CONVINCING TREBLE

The Chelmsford Tomahawks have reached their ultimate goal at the weekend by becoming National Champions after the playoffs in Sheffield. The U16's were already riding high after gaining the top spot in the Southern league for the 2012/13 season and were eager to be the 1st ever Junior team from Chelmsford to bring home the trophy.
A convincing 6-0 win against Whitly Bay left the Tomahawks up against Nottingham in the final which remained nail bitingly goalless until the end of the 2nd period. Starting the final 15mins 1 goal ahead gave them the edge they needed and battled hard to bring the final score to 2-0 and secured their National Champions status.
In preparation the team attended and won a European tournament in Leuven, Belgium without conceding any goals and adding to the trophy cabinet.

Head coach, Sean Easton has always had great belief in what the team could achieve and through everyone's hard work and determination, they can be proud of making history for Chelmsford Ice Hockey Academy.

Chieftains defenceman and assistant coach Easton said "It's a proud moment in my career to have coached this group of youngsters to their silverware this year. It's a real honour and privelege to help in their development and I am sure there are players here who will go on to represent the Chieftains in the next few years and beyond. I'd also like to think that some can go on further to higher leagues and beyond. The talent is certainly here and it's all about nurturing it and keeping the focus right moving forwards".

This season was the 25th anniversary of not just the Chieftains, but of the junior set-up in Chelmsford and a fairly successful year it was too! The u-18s finished 4th in their league, while there was a third placed finish for the U-14s. The 2 U-12s sides were not as successful, but the aim of the youngest players at the club is the enjoyment of the sport and getting the basics of the game taught in a fun and enjoyable environment.

ARMED SERVICES HOCKEY TOURNAMENT                        ADMISSION FREE TO ALL GAMES

With the start of the EPL season still a long way off, those local to Sheffield can still get a hockey fix, as the 3 Armed Forces take to the ice for 4 days of intense competition at Ice Sheffield, from 11-14 June. The daytime tournament will be played between the individual station and Regiment teams, but the evenings are when the premier events will be staged, with full length games between the 3 Services taking place on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday nights. The Thursday night game will be the final Inter-Service game and will likely be between the British Army Blades and the RAF Aces, with the RAF looking to win the Cup for the 5th year in a row. Get yourself along to Ice Sheffield for a 7:30pm face-off (approx) and cheer on your favourite Service!"
